I've always loved Captain Picard (okay, okay...Patrick Stewart). He was one of the main reasons I watched almost every episode of Star Trek's "Next Generation" (even though I don't even like most science fiction-y shows or books). He's sexy, has that sexy accent, and is a pretty darn sexy good actor.
Today I love Patrick Stewart even more...because he has come forward in recent days as a spokesperson for ending domestic violence against women.
Why? Why does a wealthy, successful, sexy-as-hell Hollywood actor care so much about who is beating whom in our world today?
Because his father beat his mother. Because he witnessed violence in his home every weekend from the time he was five years old. Because he couldn't stop his father. Because later in life, he had to learn how to handle his own anger.
Now, in an effort to help end violence against women, he is speaking openly and honestly about his experiences. His story is sad and poignant and important.
This video clip was filmed during an Amnesty International event.
